More Than Brain Rot

Some people say television and movies do nothing but rot your mind.  Among my own friends I know people who don’t own televisions and keep away from the screen almost religiously.

Television: The Root of All Evil

With all the variety of programming around these days there’s a lot of junk (*cough* pretty much every reality television show *cough*)

Who Wants to Marry My Dad? Really? Who comes up with this?

but if you dig deep enough there are plenty of things worth watching out there.  Things that might even enhance your brain power instead of turning all the intelligence you may have had into mush.

I’ve always loved television and movies.  Something about their ability to bring you into worlds that don’t really exist or just worlds you could never visit (sometimes worlds you’d never want to visit).  I started as a child watching the usual children’s programming you’d expect (far less obsessed with being educational compared with today’s television for children) with some differences.  I suppose you can’t really put “Star Trek The Next Generation” into that category but I like to think that show’s like it had a strong influence on my taste these days and my constant obsession with finding new and exciting things to watch.  Then, of course, spreading those shows to everyone I know.

Data uses his brain or positronic net really.

As September rolls around again, blockbuster movie season is coming to an end and the new television season is starting up; always an exciting time of year.  This seemed like the best time for me to start a blog like this.  I’ve sacrificed many hours to bad entertainment and if I can save some others that waste maybe that will make it all worth it.  On the other side, there are so many good things out there that aren’t being watched and I’d like to remedy that as well if I could.  This will be a place for some of my favourites in television and movies as well as suggestions from readers about what they like.  It’s all welcome here.
